Shadowfax Winery makes reference in colour, texture and form to the surrounding topography. It’s specific function as a barrel store is represented in its linear plan using simple geometry. It has been designed to extend in a modular fashion at a later date as production demands extend. The intension is for this building to have a fragile silver and glass capsule or body cradled between solid blocks that look as if they were made of earth scraped into piles. The gaps in these piles or berms offer views out to the vineyard and in to the wine making process which reads like an internal organ.
