A proposed ‘front door’ or ‘gateway’ approach to the campus will signify a clear vehicular entry into the campus, while the southern elevation adjacent to the vehicular entry acts as a contemporary proscenium, arch or gateway, inviting visitors to gravitate towards the building. Even though the functions contained within NMIT are for training rather than municipal purposes, the building achieves its monumental scale on the Dalton Road elevation. In a suburb lacking in civic buildings, the structure symbolises the expanding role of NMIT Epping’s services offered to the local community, exposing the Library, Computer Commons and Gym to public view.
