Mike Xie and Peter Felicetti initiated the Innovative Structures Group (ISG) in 2000, as a forum to explore and develop the Evolutionary Structural Optimization (ESO) technique, pioneered by Xie and Steven in 1992.
Felicetti has provided funding for PhD scholarships, and the group has published a number of papers in international journals and conferences.
Recently the group has collaborated with Mark Burry's group, SIAL (Spatial Information Architecture Laboratory), in exploring interoperability between architectural and structural software. The collaboration has undertaken studies on Gaudi's Sagrada Familia cathedral.
