A new salt water swimming pool/retail/restaurant complex located on the St Kilda foreshore to replace the existing facility constructed in the 1930's
Felicetti were involved in the project as structural engineers from conception to end of design development handover to builder for D and C contract.
Our office undertook existing condition investigations and reports, briefing and liaison with geotechnical consultants, conceptual and design development structural design.
Felicetti developed a unique structural design for the function room floor which the client required to be a clear span of 21m. There was also a restriction in the depth of the floor structure. Due to the long span, floor vibration and dynamics were critical design criteria.
Taking inspiration from the Moorish geometry that the original Sea baths drew reference, Felicetti developed a diagonal beam geometry that minimized resonance, as well as providing a beam depth within the allotted 900mm. The diagonal beam structure was interlaced into a diamond arrangement of 1500mm depth primary beams. The diagonal arrangement and variable lengths of the beams minimized floor resonance.
